Huisbrouwerij Sint Canarus is a small home brewery located in Gottem, a village in the municipality of Deinze in the East Flemish region of Belgium. Founded in 2002 by Piet Meirhaeghe, it has earned a reputation as one of the smallest breweries in Belgium — and possibly in the world. Nestled close to the village church in the heart of Gottem, Sint Canarus embodies the intimate, artisanal spirit that defines the best of Belgian brewing tradition. Despite its modest size, Sint Canarus is known for its creative approach and distinctive Belgian ales. The brewery produces a range of characterful beers, including Potteloereke, a dark and flavoursome brew, and Filou, described as a classic tripel. These beers showcase the brewery's commitment to traditional Belgian styles, balancing complexity with approachability. Sint Canarus has also attracted international attention, with its beers reaching collectors and enthusiasts as far as Australia. The brewery opens its doors to visitors every Sunday from 11:00, and on the first Sunday of each month, guided brewery tours are offered. This welcoming taproom experience makes Sint Canarus not just a place to drink great beer, but a destination for anyone exploring the beer culture of the Leie region in Flanders.
