Hartwall
Finland · Founded in 1836
Hartwall is one of Finland's oldest and most prominent beverage companies, founded in 1836 and headquartered in Helsinki. With nearly two centuries of history, it has grown from a regional Finnish brewer into a major player in the Nordic beverage market. In 2013, Hartwall was acquired by Royal Unibrew, the Danish brewing group, after previously being owned by Heineken. This change in ownership marked a significant milestone in the company's long history and further integrated it into the broader Nordic beer landscape. As Finland's largest brewery, Hartwall produces a wide range of beers and beverages that have become staples in Finnish drinking culture. The portfolio includes lager styles and iconic Finnish brands such as KOFF, a classic Finnish beer with deep roots in the country's brewing tradition. Hartwall also expanded its reach through strategic acquisitions, including the purchase of Mallasjuoma in Lahti in 1988, a legendary Finnish brewery whose beers remain part of the portfolio to this day. Hartwall is also widely recognised beyond beer for producing the Hartwall Long Drink, a Finnish gin-based lonkero that has achieved iconic status in Finland and gained international recognition. The brand's combination of brewing heritage, a broad beer portfolio, and distinctly Finnish beverage traditions makes Hartwall one of the most culturally significant names in Finnish brewing.
