Gistgeest
Belgium · Founded in 2015
Gistgeest is a small craft brewery based in Borgerhout, a district of Antwerp, Belgium. Its origins trace back to 2015, when the first fermentation sparks flew — quite literally, as the name Gistgeest translates to 'yeast spirit' or 'fermentation ghost'. Operating on a modest homebrew scale, the brewery produces batches of around 120 litres, brewed by a passionate brewer in his basement near the Boelaerpark. Despite its small footprint, Gistgeest has built a genuine following within Antwerp's vibrant craft beer scene and has appeared at respected events such as the Modeste Beer Festival. Gistgeest focuses on expressive, flavour-driven beer styles that reflect the brewer's personal tastes. The brewery is particularly known for its dry and refined Saisons, including a collaboration beer brewed specifically for café Het Beestenbos in the Sint-Andrieskwartier neighbourhood. The beers are characterised by a clean, thoughtful approach to fermentation and style, staying true to Belgian craft traditions while embracing a contemporary sensibility. The taproom opens its doors on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, giving beer lovers the chance to taste Gistgeest's home-brewed beers directly at the source in Borgerhout.
