Geuzestekerij Hanssens Artisanaal

Geuzestekerij Hanssens Artisanaal is a traditional lambic blendery located in Dworp (Vroenenbosstraat 15/1), in the Zenne Valley region of Belgium — the heartland of spontaneous fermentation. The operation spans four generations of the Hanssens family, and since the 1990s it has been run by fourth-generation Sidy Hanssens and her husband John. Rather than brewing its own wort, Hanssens works as a geuzestekerij — a blendery that selects and blends aged lambic from other producers to craft its own distinctive beers. Hanssens Artisanaal is known for its strictly limited production, which reflects a deep commitment to artisanal methods and quality over volume. The range focuses on traditional lambic-based styles, including gueuze and fruit lambics. Among the beers associated with the blendery are an Oude Kriek (6% ABV), made with cherries, and a Framboos, crafted with raspberries. These fruit lambics are produced in small batches, making them sought-after by lambic enthusiasts across Belgium and beyond. Hanssens Artisanaal is a member of HORAL, the High Council for Artisanal Lambic Beers, which advocates for the preservation of traditional lambic production in the Pajottenland and Zenne Valley. The blendery participates in events such as Toer de Geuze, the biennial open-door celebration of lambic culture. Its reputation is built on authenticity, family heritage, and the slow, patient craft of blending spontaneously fermented beers.
