Geuzestekerij Hanssens Artisanaal Oude Gueuze Hanssens

About

Hanssens Artisanaal is the world's oldest independent gueuze blendery. Operating in Dworp since 1896, it continues to work by traditional methods: rather than brewing, the small operation selects and blends lambics from multiple years and producers into a balanced whole. Oude Gueuze Hanssens is a classic gueuze with a clear, golden-yellow appearance. The beer marries the sharp acidity of aged lambics with the fruity, sweeter character of younger brews. On the nose, green apple, citrus and subtle vinous notes lead. The palate is assertively sour with hints of vinegar, white grape and the characteristic 'funky' fermentation signature of wild yeast—the hallmark of spontaneous lambic fermentation. The finish is dry and tart with a lingering, sour aftertaste. This is gueuze as it should be: complex, unpolished and incomparable.
