Brouwerij De Bie

Brouwerij De Bie was founded in 1992 in the hop gardens of Watou, a brewing village near Poperinge close to the French border in West Flanders, Belgium. From its very beginnings, the brewery was one of the smallest in Belgium, rooted in a region with a deep and centuries-old hop-growing tradition. Over time, the brewery relocated to Dentergem, also in West Flanders, where it continues to operate today under the name Brouwerij De Bie NV. What sets Brouwerij De Bie apart is its commitment to natural, quality ingredients without chemical additives. The hops, wheat and barley used in brewing are sourced directly from the brewery's own surrounding fields, giving their beers a distinctly local and agricultural character. The portfolio spans a range of Belgian ale styles, including strong blonde ales, strong dark Belgian ales, and more adventurous hybrid styles. A notable example is Fris Bie, a red IPA-Saison fusion that has earned recognition as an award-winning beer. Another beer in their range is Zatte Bie, a strong blonde ale at 8.0% ABV. Brouwerij De Bie represents a crafted, terroir-driven approach to Belgian brewing, drawing on homegrown raw materials and traditional Belgian fermentation methods. The brewery is listed among active Belgian craft producers in both regional tourism guides and national brewing overviews, underlining its place within the broader Flemish brewing landscape.
