Brauerei Wieselburg
Austria · Founded in 1770
Brauerei Wieselburg is one of Austria's oldest breweries, located in Wieselburg in the Lower Austrian region of Niederösterreich. While beer tradition in Wieselburg dates back to 1650, the brewery's official founding year is 1770, when Josef Schauer purchased and established the operation. Over the centuries, the brewery has grown into one of the most recognisable names in Austrian brewing and is today part of Brau Union, the Austrian subsidiary of Heineken. The brewery's portfolio centres around accessible, well-crafted lager styles that reflect traditional Central European brewing values. Wieselburger Gold is a Helles-style lager and one of the brewery's flagship beers, appreciated for its clean, balanced character. Another notable offering is the Wieselburger Stammbräu, a full-strength European Pale Lager with 5.4% ABV, described as spicy and not too heavily hopped — a nod to the optimistic brewing spirit of earlier eras. The Kaiser Fasstyp, a Helles with 5.0% ABV, is also brewed at Wieselburg under the Heineken umbrella. Brauerei Wieselburg has been officially recognised as part of Austria's brewing heritage and is listed among state-distinguished enterprises. Its beers are widely available across Austria and internationally, making Wieselburger a true ambassador of traditional Austrian lager culture.
