Brasserie Pietra
France · Founded in 1996
Brasserie Pietra is Corsica's pioneering craft brewery, founded in 1996 in Furiani, near Bastia, by a family with deep roots in the island's culture. Their mission from the very beginning was to combine local Corsican identity with a distinctive brewing approach, producing the first beer ever brewed on the island. This made Pietra a landmark in both Corsican culture and French regional brewing history. The brewery is best known for its use of chestnut flour in the mash, a technique that draws directly on Corsica's rich culinary heritage and gives their beers a unique, earthy character. This locally sourced ingredient has become the brewery's signature, making Pietra a celebrated example of beer terroir — the idea that a beer can genuinely express the flavours and identity of its place of origin. Beyond their flagship chestnut-infused beer, the brewery also produces a Corsican IPA, brewed with dry hopping using two varieties of hops, showcasing the range of their brewing ambition. Pietra's beers are widely distributed across French retail, making them among the most recognisable regional French beers available beyond their home island. The brewery has also ventured into soft drinks, producing Corsica Cola, further cementing its role as a proud ambassador of Corsican taste and identity.
