Oskar Blues Brewery

Oskar Blues Brewery was founded by Dale Katechis in 1997 in Lyons, Colorado, and quickly became a pioneering force in American craft beer. The brewery made history in November 2002 when it became the first American craft brewery to hand-can its beer, releasing Dale's Pale Ale in cans at a time when the format was largely dismissed by the craft beer world. This bold move launched what Oskar Blues itself calls the "craft-beer-in-a-can apocalypse" and fundamentally changed how the industry thought about canned craft beer. Oskar Blues built its reputation on bold, hop-forward ales and robust styles that punch well above their weight. Dale's Pale Ale remains the flagship, a malt-balanced American Pale Ale with assertive hop character. The brewery's portfolio spans IPAs, imperial stouts, and session-style beers, always with an emphasis on accessibility and drinkability without sacrificing complexity. Their approach helped pave the way for canned craft beer to become a mainstream format across the industry. Over the years, Oskar Blues grew into a major craft brewing group, joining the CANarchy collective alongside Cigar City Brewing, Perrin Brewing, Squatters, and Wasatch. The brewery has expanded well beyond its Colorado roots, maintaining a strong national presence in the United States and building a loyal following among craft beer enthusiasts who appreciate its no-nonsense, rock-and-roll attitude toward brewing.
