Brasserie Caracole is one of Belgium's most storied breweries, with roots stretching back to 1765 when the Moussoux family established a brewery in the village of Falmignoul in the Namur Province. The modern chapter began in 1990, when two friends, François Tonglet and Jean-Pierre Debras, founded a microbrewery with a passion for crafting quality beer. In 1992, their search for brewing equipment led them to Falmignoul, where they took over the historic site and breathed new life into a centuries-old brewing tradition. What makes Brasserie Caracole truly exceptional is its commitment to traditional brewing methods. Beer is brewed in copper kettles over an open wood fire — a technique that is extraordinarily rare in modern brewing. Stepping into the brewery feels like entering a time machine, with the taproom evoking the atmosphere of 1765. The brewery's portfolio includes six beers, spanning styles from amber ales to strong dark ales and Belgian blond beers, with three of them available in filtered versions. Among the brewery's most celebrated beers is Nostradamus, a bold, strong dark ale brewed with five malts, delivering a rich and complex character. Another signature brew is Saxo, a light and lively Belgian blond, while the original Caracole amber ale rounds out the core range. Brasserie Caracole has earned a reputation as one of the most authentic and atmospheric craft breweries in the Belgian Ardennes.
