About
Andechser Dunkles Weissbier is brewed by Kloster Andechs, a Benedictine monastery brewery on the Holy Mountain near Munich with a brewing tradition dating back to 1455. The brewery added this dark wheat beer to its range in 1997, distinguished by a roasted malt character. This elegant weizen appears dark brown and hazy, crowned with a fine, rich head. The nose reveals roasted malt, fresh bread and light banana notes, with spice undertones of clove and coriander seed. On the palate, bready wheat malt, subtle caramel and hints of cocoa emerge, balanced by low but detectable bitterness. The beer carries a soft, round body with well-controlled carbonation. The finish is clean and dry. Kloster Andechs sources exclusively Bavarian malts and aroma hops from Hallertau, adhering to traditional brewing practices including triple decoction mashing.
