About
Blushing Monk from Founders Brewing Company is a Belgian-style fruit ale with a distinctive origin story. Originally brewed in 2005 as 'Imperial Raz Master', the beer was reinvented when brewers Nate and Jeremy added an enormous quantity of raspberries—four times the amount used in their Rubaeus—and fermented it with Belgian yeast. The name and approach stuck, creating a full-bodied fruit beer with pronounced raspberry character. On the palate, Blushing Monk delivers tart yet luscious raspberry-jam notes balanced with subtle Belgian yeast spice and fruit esters. The 9.2% ABV remains well-hidden beneath the fruit-forward profile. Carbonation is soft and restrained, while the mouthfeel is smooth and slightly sticky. This is a dessert-friendly beer that prioritizes raspberry intensity over hop bitterness or traditional ale complexity.
