About
Jan de Lichte is a witbier from Brouwerij De Glazen Toren in Erpe-Mere, named after an 18th-century outlaw who led a notorious gang in the Aalst region. This is no ordinary witbier: brewed since 2005 with a 50/50 blend of pilsner and barley malt, wheat malt, coriander and curaçao (bitter orange peel). The result is a lightly hazy beer with full flavour and aromatic presence. The nose reveals citrus, grapefruit and spice. On the palate, a soft, pillowy texture unfolds with fruity orange peel notes that suggest lemon and citrus punch. The finish is clean and dry, with a pleasant bitterness that never overwhelms. This is not a light, summery witbier, but a fuller, more characterful expression that drinks smoothly without fatigue.
