Oude Geuze Vat 79 Mono Blend

About

Brouwerij Boon's Oude Geuze Vat 79 is a rare monoblend composed predominantly of lambic from cask No. 79, a legendary oak barrel built in 1883 by Persenaire in Antwerp. This historic 6,700-litre foeder remains the brewery's oldest, crafted from timber nearly 250 years old. The gueuze presents a complex character marked by sharp tartness and funky notes, layered with ripe fruit and citrus peel. The nose balances sweet citrus and earthy funk. The palate reveals tart, fruity complexity underpinned by subtle honey and grain, building to a dry, lingering finish. At 9% ABV, this is a masterwork of Boon's lambic heritage, where extended maturation in the historic barrel adds distinctive depth and refinement.
