Brauerei C. & A. Veltins traces its roots to 1824, when innkeeper Franz Kramer established a small guesthouse brewery in Grevenstein, a district of Meschede in the Sauerland region of Germany. The brewery began supplying beer to nearby taverns in 1852, after founder Clemens Veltins traveled the world in search of brewing inspiration. In 1893, twin brothers Anton and Carl Veltins took over the family business and gave the brewery the name it still carries today: Brauerei C. & A. Veltins. Brewing has always been guided by the German Reinheitsgebot, the centuries-old purity law that defines what may go into a German beer.
