Dikke MAAI is a light reddish, unfiltered kuit beer from Stadsbrouwerij de Dikke in Wijk bij Duurstede. Brewed since 2015, the brewery revives a historic recipe documented in 1495. This beer stands out through the addition of pure cherry juice from the Maaikers, a local cherry variety. The result is distinctive: not overtly sweet as typical fruit beers, but rather balanced with subtle bitterness and tartness. The Maaikers contribute character without overwhelming the palate. At 6.5% ABV, this is a full-bodied fruit beer with a smooth, creamy texture. The flavour walks a fine line between the gentle cherry fruitiness and the underlying bitterness of the traditional kuit style.
