De Dikke Donder is an unfiltered amber Kuitbier from Stadsbrouwerij De Dikke in Wijk bij Duurstede, brewed according to a historical recipe from 1495. The substantial amount of malted oats creates a silky, creamy mouthfeel, while dark barley and wheat malts contribute its distinctive colour and full flavour profile. The aroma presents liquorice-like sweetness with notes of salmiak and warmth. The palate is full and gently sweet, with minimal bitterness despite its 7.5% ABV. Multiple hop varieties are added late in the brewing process, including hops sourced from the brewer's own garden.
