Samichlaus Schwarzes

Samichlaus Schwarzes from Brauerei Schloss Eggenberg is an Austrian Doppelbock with a formidable 14% ABV. Brewed once yearly on St. Nicholas Day (December 6), it undergoes a ten-month maturation before bottling. The name reflects its dark character—Schwarzbier means "black beer" in German.

The nose offers molasses, raisin and subtle smoke with hints of spice. The palate opens with brown sugar and dark fruit, anchored by assertive hop bitterness. Spicy rye and dark oak provide structure, balanced by increased bittering and aroma hops compared to earlier versions.

This is a full-bodied, intense lager with warming alcohol and considerable depth—a winter beer that rewards patience.
