Mad Scientist Blackcurrant Barbados Trifle is a Rum Barrel Aged Imperial Pastry Sour Ale from Hungarian brewery Mad Scientist. This special barrel project took the acclaimed blackcurrant trifle base and matured it in second-fill Barbados rum casks, layering the bright fruit sourness with warm vanilla, oak and rum character. The nose is sweet and fruity with spiced undertones. On the palate, blackcurrant meets barrel warmth and acidity in a complex interplay, finishing semi-dry with hints of red wine. At 8.2% ABV and built to age, this is a dessert beer that rewards patience and cellar time.
