Brouwerij Kompel
Belgium · Founded in 2015
Brouwerij Kompel is a Belgian craft brewery founded in 2015 in Maasmechelen, a town in the Limburg province of Belgium with deep roots in the mining industry. The brewery was established as a tribute to the miners who came from far and wide to work in the local coal mines, and that heritage is woven into every aspect of the brand — from its name, 'kompel' being the Limburgish word for a mining companion, to the stories told through each beer label. The brewery's core range contains nine beers, with six flagship styles at its heart. These include Kompel Bovengronds, a blond beer at 6% ABV, alongside darker and wheat-based offerings. Brouwerij Kompel also produces a Nostalgia Collection, a rotating series of numbered releases that delve deeper into the mining history of the region. The portfolio demonstrates a clear passion for Belgian beer traditions combined with a strong local identity and storytelling approach. Kompel Bovengronds earned a Silver Medal at an international beer competition in 2019, underlining the quality behind the label. The brewery has also ventured into barrel-aged territory with 'The Saint's Selection', a premium series named after St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners. Brouwerij Kompel participates in regional beer festivals and has been featured at events celebrating Limburg's rich brewing culture.
