Schwarzbräu is a traditional German brewery located in Zusmarshausen, Bavaria. With roots stretching back well before the Second World War, the brewery has a remarkable history: after 1945, it was occupied by American forces and brewed beer specifically for the stationed troops. Over the decades, Schwarzbräu has grown into a respected name in Bavarian brewing culture, combining heritage with consistent craftsmanship. The brewery's portfolio is rooted in German brewing tradition and brewed in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, the German purity law. Schwarzbräu specialises in bottom-fermented specialities, with lagers and dark beers at the heart of its range. Among its signature offerings is the Schwarzer Abt, a richly flavoured dark beer that has become one of its most iconic brews. The Marie Hausbrendel Hell rounds out the lineup as a classic Bavarian lager. The range also extends to porter and fruit beers, showcasing a broader brewing ambition beyond the traditional core. Schwarzbräu has earned recognition on the international stage, with multiple beers impressing juries at prestigious competitions including the Frankfurt Trophy and the World Beer Cup, where its Roggenschnizzle took gold in 2026. Three Schwarzbräu beers were awarded at the Frankfurt Trophy alone, a testament to the brewery's enduring quality and craft.
