Palm Breweries is one of Belgium's most storied brewing groups, with roots stretching back to 1525, when a farmstead in Steenhuffel — northwest of Brussels — first began its brewing enterprise. Known historically as De Hoorn, the site passed through generations of the Van Roy family before evolving into the modern brewing group. Over the centuries, the brewery underwent several transformations, from Brouwerij Palm to Palm Breweries, and has since become part of Royal Swinkels Family Brewers following acquisition by the Dutch brewer Bavaria. What sets Palm Breweries apart is its remarkable breadth of fermentation expertise. According to the brewery itself, it is the only brewing group in the world that brews according to all four traditional fermentation methods — top fermentation, bottom fermentation, spontaneous fermentation, and mixed fermentation — across three specialised historic brewing sites. This gives the group an exceptionally diverse portfolio, spanning Belgian amber ales, Flemish red ales, and beyond. The group's expertise in both high and low fermentation beers reflects a deep commitment to Belgian brewing heritage and local flavour. Among its most notable holdings is Brouwerij Rodenbach, the iconic producer of Flemish red-brown ale, which has been part of Palm Breweries since 1998. Rodenbach's flagship blend combines aged and young beer, a hallmark of the style. The Palm amber ale itself remains a widely recognised Belgian classic, known for its adherence to traditional Belgian brewing methods.
