La Cagole de Marseille is a beer brand with deep roots in the city of Marseille, in the south of France. The original brewery that produced La Cagole closed in the early 2000s, but the brand was subsequently revived by Yves Darnaud's Brasserie de la Plage, breathing new life into one of the Mediterranean port city's most recognisable local beers. The name "cagole" itself is a colloquial Marseillais term, firmly embedding the brand in the culture and identity of the city. The portfolio centres around a small but characterful range of beers inspired by the sun-soaked coast of Marseille. The flagship La Cagole Blonde is a lager brewed in the Czech and Bohemian Pilsner tradition, coming in at 5.5% ABV with around 20 IBU and featuring aromas of grain and honey. On draught, reviewers have described it as a particularly refreshing and accomplished pour. The range is complemented by La Cagole Blanche, a witbier of 4.5% ABV with citrus aromas, and La Bière du Cabanon, adding further variety to the lineup. La Cagole has earned a loyal following both locally and among visitors to the region. Its beers have been noted by craft beer enthusiasts travelling the French Mediterranean coast, praised for their approachable drinkability and regional character, making them a true taste of Marseille.
