Hofbrauhaus Freising, officially known as Gräfliches Hofbrauhaus Freising, is one of the oldest breweries in the world, tracing its origins back to 1160. It was founded by Bishop Albert I of Harthausen, who began brewing beer on the cathedral hill in Freising, Bavaria. Located in what is known as the "Cathedral City" of Freising, the brewery has remained deeply rooted in its historical setting for over 860 years. Today it is owned by the noble family Törring-Jettenbach, giving it the designation "Gräfliches" — meaning "of the count" — a title that reflects its aristocratic heritage. As a Bavarian brewery with centuries of tradition, Hofbrauhaus Freising brews in the classic German style, staying true to the values of craftsmanship and heritage that have defined it since the Middle Ages. Its portfolio reflects the rich brewing culture of Bavaria, with beers that embody the region's deep-rooted brewing identity. The brewery is entirely unrelated to the more widely known Hofbräuhaus in Munich, and stands firmly on its own distinguished legacy. With more than 850 years of history, Hofbrauhaus Freising is recognized internationally as one of the world's most historic breweries. Its rich past, classic look and feel, and Bavarian character make it a compelling destination for beer lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
