Coopers Brewery was founded in 1862 by Thomas Cooper in Adelaide, South Australia, making it one of the oldest breweries in the country. What began as a modest home-brewing venture has grown into Australia's largest independently-owned brewery, a remarkable achievement in an industry long dominated by large international conglomerates. The Cooper family has maintained ownership throughout its entire history, preserving the brewery's independent spirit and traditional brewing values across multiple generations. Coopers is best known for its naturally conditioned ales, a distinctive brewing method that results in the characteristic sediment found in many of its bottles. The brewery's portfolio spans a broad range of styles, including pale ale, stout, sparkling ale, and lager, as well as seasonal and small-batch releases such as its celebrated Vintage Ale. The use of traditional fermentation techniques and quality malt and hop selection gives Coopers beers their recognisable character — cloudy, flavourful, and unapologetically authentic. In recent years, Coopers has invested heavily in its future with a new world-class brand home at its Regency Park facility, featuring a visitors centre, interactive history display, and a microbrewery. Brewery tours have returned to this expanded site, offering beer enthusiasts an immersive experience. With over 160 years of brewing heritage, Coopers remains a cornerstone of Australian brewing culture.
