Brouwerij Union is a Belgian brewery located in Jumet, in the province of Hainaut. It operates as part of Alken-Maes, one of Belgium's largest brewing groups, and has long served as a dedicated production centre for traditional Belgian ales. The brewery's history is closely tied to the broader consolidation of the Belgian brewing industry, with Alken-Maes acquiring full ownership of the Union brand and its operations around 2000. In 2004, Alken-Maes announced an investment of five million euros to modernise the facility, underlining Union's continued importance within the group. Brewery Union in Jumet specialises in the production of top-fermented beers, distinguishing it from the Alken production site, which focuses primarily on lager-style pilsners such as Maes and Cristal. This division of labour reflects a deliberate strategy to preserve the character of Belgium's traditional high-fermentation styles. Among the beers produced at Union are blonde ales with an ABV around 7%, brewed according to classic Belgian methods that rely on warm fermentation to develop complex, fruity and malty flavour profiles. Through its role within Alken-Maes, Brouwerij Union has helped keep a range of established Belgian beer styles in production, including brands that date back several decades.
