Brauerei Schlappeseppel is one of Germany's most historically rooted breweries, based in Aschaffenburg in the Unterfranken (Lower Franconia) region of Bavaria. Its origins trace back to 1631, making it nearly 400 years old. A defining moment in its history came in 1803, when the Elector Karl Theodor von Dalberg granted the brewery a brewing licence in perpetuity — a remarkable distinction that underlines its deep local heritage. In 1866, brewer Schwind took over the operation, and the brewery has since been known under the Eder & Heylands name. The name Schlappeseppel itself is no marketing invention but an authentic piece of Aschaffenburg folklore, giving the brand an identity as genuine as its centuries-old story. The brewery's portfolio is firmly rooted in Franconian and Bavarian lager traditions. Core offerings include a Helles (4.8% ABV), a naturally cloudy Kellerbier/Zwickelbier (5.5% ABV), a German Pilsner, and a Märzen known as Schlappeseppel Specialität. The brewery also produces a Natur-Radler. A signature characteristic of several beers is the use of special malt varieties that lend a subtle caramel note, distinguishing them from more conventional Pilsner and Export Helles styles.
