Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout from Tadcaster represents a restrained take on the Imperial Stout style. At 7% ABV, this English brewery delivers a lower-alcohol interpretation without sacrificing depth or character. The nose opens with cocoa powder and roasted barley, followed by dark fruit notes of raisin and fig. On the palate, chocolate and coffee emerge alongside roasted malt, bound together by subtle brown sugar sweetness and a measured alcohol presence that warms without overwhelming. Brewed since 1758 using well water, barley malt and roasted barley, Samuel Smith's maintains traditional methods and avoids chemical additives. The result is a full-flavoured Imperial Stout that drinks lighter than its complexity suggests.
