Berne Abdijbier presents this special Vatgerijpte Abt Generaal, a barrel-aged interpretation of their classic quadrupel. The base beer matures for a year in oak casks previously used for Rum Barbados and Islay Single Malt Whisky, adding depth and character. A rich blend of spices and Czech hops completes the composition. The beer appears deep brown with a fine, persistent beige head. The nose reveals spicy Belgian yeast character with cappuccino notes. On the palate, overwhelming sweetness emerges—caramel, candi sugar and bread tones—amplified by barrel maturation. A warming, contemplative quadrupel suited to quiet evenings and hearty fare.
