Haagsche Broeder Prior is a dark, full-bodied porter brewed by the Brothers of Saint John in their monastery in The Hague. At 8.5% ABV, this beer balances roasted malt character with a crisp, lightly hoppy finish. The palate is marked by full sweetness with distinct caramel notes, while the brewers themselves describe a balance between roasted and fresh, between bittersweet and tart. The brewery, established in 2014 on the initiative of two young entrepreneurs from The Hague, crafts beers rooted in tradition yet unmistakably modern. Prior stands for 'Primus Inter Pares' – first among equals – reflecting the ambitions of this monastic brewery.
