Massive! is Gigantic Brewing's annual barleywine, brewed in Oregon with a signature eight-hour boil that intensifies malt extraction and creates a deep ruby hue. This bourbon barrel-aged edition marries rich malt character with the warmth and complexity of bourbon aging. The nose reveals roasted malt, fermented fruit, vanilla and subtle oak. On the palate, the beer is full and sweet, with notes of maple syrup, burnt toffee and plum, supported by a firm 14% ABV. The finish is dry and lingering, with bourbon and dark fruit carrying through. The body is tight and focused despite its strength, avoiding the flabby sweetness common in high-gravity ales.
