Flying Dog's The Fear is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale at 9% ABV, brewed with local pumpkin puree and a thoughtful blend of autumn spices. The grain bill draws from Pale 2-Row, Vienna, CaraBrown, Midnight Wheat and Chocolate malt, building a rich, roasted foundation with notes of molasses and dark chocolate. Poured dark brown with a substantial head, The Fear opens with aromas of molasses and roasted grain. On the palate, caramel malt flavours—toffee, brown sugar and candi sugar—mingle with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and allspice. The pumpkin character emerges gradually, building with each sip rather than dominating upfront. Despite its strength, the beer drinks smoothly, with Warrior and Willamette hops providing restrained bitterness that frames rather than overwhelms the spiced malt profile.
