Duvel Barrel Aged Bourbon
Duvel Barrel Aged Bourbon began as an experiment in 2017 when Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat aged its flagship blonde ale in American bourbon barrels. The result combines Duvel's signature crisp character with the smooth, complex flavours imparted by six to nine months in Kentucky bourbon oak.
The beer presents as amber to ochre in colour, topped with a firm white head. On the nose, intense toffee, vanilla and caramel emerge, with subtle bourbon undertones. The palate is full and creamy, leading with toffee and caramel, followed by vanilla, oak and Belgian candi sugar. The finish is smooth, with a light, lingering bitterness that feels refined rather than harsh.
This is a contemplative beer—layered, sophisticated and designed for savouring rather than quenching.
