Früh Kölsch is the flagship of Cölner Hofbräu Früh, a brewery established in 1904 in Cologne, standing opposite the cathedral since its founding. This is a textbook example of the Kölsch style: a top-fermented beer with the crispness of a lager. The beer displays brilliant clarity and pale gold colour. The nose reveals grain, grass and subtle bready notes. On the palate, it is clean and mildly malty with bread and grain character, finishing dry with gentle hop bitterness. This is an unpretentious, thirst-quenching brew that derives its appeal from clarity and balance rather than complexity. Brewed according to the German purity law, using noble hops such as Spalt that contribute understated earthy and spicy qualities.
