Sancti Adalberti Pastorale is a dark abbey beer from Brouwerij Egmond, brewed under licence from St Adelbert's Abbey in Egmond aan den Hoef. It is the Netherlands' only Benedictine abbey beer. The brewery uses organically cultivated ingredients and lime blossom in the traditional brewing process, with no added preservatives. Pastorale presents itself as a full-bodied, wintery take on the abbey beer style. It appears dark brown with a reddish hue and a firm, creamy head. The nose reveals rich aromas of caramel, roasted malt, dark fruit, brown sugar and raisins, with subtle spice notes. The palate is malty and fruity, with a sweet character that remains well-judged. The addition of lime blossom brings a fresh dimension to the full malt backbone. An inviting beer for quiet moments by the fireside.
