Hertog Jan Karakter is a Dutch ale born from a distinctive brewing experiment at the Arcen brewery. The brewers developed two separate beers using different hop and malt combinations, then invited beer enthusiasts to choose their preferred version. The winning recipe became Karakter, a copper-red ale with fruity character and mature bitter notes. Brewed with four different malt varieties, including the brewery's signature Hertog Jan prestige malt, Karakter gains depth and complexity from its grain bill. At 7.5% ABV, this full-bodied ale strikes a balance between fruity esters and spicy, bitter finish. Its rich malt foundation and carefully selected hops create a warming, sophisticated Dutch ale.
