Wychwood Hobgoblin Ruby
Hobgoblin Ruby is the legendary ruby ale from Wychwood Brewery, based in Witney, Oxfordshire. Originally brewed as a strong winter ale and named by founder Paddy Glenny, this full-bodied beer blends chocolate and crystal malts with Styrian Goldings and Fuggles hops. The result is a distinctive balance of sweet malt character and moderate bitterness.
The nose reveals toffee, chocolate, and subtle citrus notes. On the palate, caramel and butterscotch flavours take centre stage, joined by fruity esters and a biscuit-like malt backbone. The finish is dry with earthy, slightly musty undertones. A classic English ale that delivers flavour without excess, it sits comfortably between sweetness and hop-driven bitterness.
