Valeir Extra from Brouwerij Contreras is a Belgian IPA at 6.5% ABV, dry-hopped with substantial quantities of Amarillo hops. This dual-purpose variety imparts a notably floral hop character with citrus aromatics. The beer presents an interplay of spice and fruit, balancing sweet malt notes with hop bitterness. Tasting notes reveal herbal orange zest, dried lime peel and white bread dough, followed by toffee malts on the mid-palate. The finish is clean and refreshing, marked by light lemon bitterness and a crisp, dry conclusion. Brewery Contreras, based in Gavere, names Valeir after a Ghent soldier who fought in the 1453 Battle of Gavere. The beer stands out through its refined hop character and approachable drinkability.
