Stadsbrouwerij De Dikke
Netherlands · Founded in 2015
Stadsbrouwerij De Dikke is a craft brewery founded in early 2015 in Wijk bij Duurstede, a historic town in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The brewery draws inspiration from the rich history of the city, basing its recipes on a historical brewing tradition dating back to 1495. From the very beginning, the brewery set out to create a truly local beer with a strong connection to its roots — the first beer, brewed with oats, became available on 6 April 2015 and was celebrated as a genuinely Wijks beer. The brewery specialises in craft specialty beers inspired by the heritage of Wijk bij Duurstede. Among its notable brews is the Dikke Dreun, a special release brewed to commemorate the brewery's fifth anniversary, which was lagered with cognac chips and bottled in ceramic jugs — a testament to the creative and historically informed approach that defines the brewery's portfolio. Stadsbrouwerij De Dikke is housed in a building that exudes history and atmosphere, making it a destination in its own right. The brewery consistently receives outstanding reviews on Tripadvisor, holding a near-perfect 4.9 rating, and is frequently listed among the best breweries in the Netherlands. Visitors praise both the quality of the beers and the immersive, characterful setting.
