St Austell Brewery

St Austell Brewery is an independent, family-owned brewery based in St Austell, Cornwall, in the South West of England. Founded in 1851, it is one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in the region, with a brewing heritage spanning over 175 years. The brewery remains proudly independent and family run, combining deep-rooted tradition with a modern approach to craft beer. In 2025, the brewery celebrated its 175th anniversary by reviving an original 1851 recipe from its own archive of handwritten brewing records, underlining its commitment to preserving its rich history. St Austell Brewery operates as a brewer, pub company and drinks wholesaler, serving quality beer and hospitality across the South West. The brewery is known for its range of ales, including well-regarded cask and bottled beers that reflect the character of Cornwall and the broader British brewing tradition. The quality and reputation of its beers grew notably after brewer Roger Ryman joined in 1999, bringing leadership and passion that elevated the brewery's standing in the UK beer scene. The brewery is also home to a taproom and visitor experience, making it a popular destination for beer lovers visiting Cornwall. Brewing director Georgina Young, formerly of Fuller's, continues to drive innovation at St Austell, ensuring the brewery keeps evolving while staying true to its Cornish roots.
