Licher Privatbrauerei, officially known as Licher Privatbrauerei Jhring-Melchior, is a historic German brewery founded in 1854 in the small town of Lich, in the state of Hesse. The brewery was established by Johann Heinrich Jhring and has grown over the decades into one of the larger regional breweries in Germany. Lich itself is widely known throughout Germany for its beer, making the brewery a defining part of the town's identity and cultural heritage. The brewery produces a range of traditional German beer styles, staying true to the brewing traditions of the Hesse region. Among its portfolio, Licher is known for beers such as Licher Export, brewed at the historic Lich facility. Additionally, the brewery produces Benediktiner, a wheat beer brewed according to the original recipe of the Benedictine monks, reflecting the deep-rooted craftsmanship and respect for tradition that characterizes the Licher brand. In 2004, Licher Privatbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Braugruppe, one of Germany's leading brewing groups. Despite this acquisition, the brewery has maintained its regional identity and continues to operate from its historic location in Lich, Hesse, preserving its reputation as a cornerstone of German regional brewing culture.
