Cerveza La Sagra was founded in 2011 by Carlos García, then just 26 years old, in Numancia de la Sagra, a town in the Toledo region of central Spain. The brewery takes its name directly from the fertile La Sagra comarca, and was established with the ambition to represent a new generation of Spanish brewers — one capable of changing the concept of beer in Spain. From the outset, the brewery positioned itself as young, dynamic, and quality-driven, committed to challenging the dominance of industrial lager in the Spanish market. La Sagra's portfolio is inspired by traditional Czech brewing methods, with a focus on lagers, radlers, and specialty beers. The brewery's flagship beers are brewed from 100% barley malt, with no additives or chemicals, using artisan production methods aimed at delivering a unique flavour and character. The range reflects an approach that blends brewing tradition with a modern, innovative spirit — described by the brewery itself as "the most innovative way to be traditional." La Sagra has earned significant international recognition: its Premium Lager won a gold medal at the World Beer Awards 2022 in the Czech Style Pale category, and was again recognised at the 2023 edition, praised for its light gold colour, attractive head retention, and subtle notes of heather, orange, malt, and gentle citrus hop. The brewery also collaborates with Molson Coors on Madri Excepcional, a 4.6% ABV lager available in the UK, Ireland, and Spain.
