Brouwerij Wijchense Schone
Netherlands · Founded in 2013
Brouwerij Wijchense Schòne is a craft brewery from Wijchen, in the Dutch province of Gelderland, founded in 2013 by Paul Bier and Haike Toonen. The two enthusiastic brewers turned their shared passion for brewing into a profession, building a local brewery that became a recognisable name in the regional craft beer scene. The brewery was known for its range of specialty beers with characterful names that reflect the local dialect and culture of the Wijchen area, including beers such as Blonde Dern, Hittepetit, Wanne Kwats and Houje Wa. These names give the brewery a distinctive and playful identity rooted in its community. In December 2021, the brewery changed hands when two young homebrewers from Winssen, Marijn van Kraaij and Lenn Janssen, took over operations. Having brewed for years at home in their shed, they brought fresh energy to the brewery. Unfortunately, following sharply rising costs and a challenging market, the brewery ultimately announced it would be closing its doors.
