Brouwerij Urthel
Belgium · Founded in 2007
Brouwerij Urthel is a Belgian craft brewery originally founded in Ruiselede, Belgium, by Hildegard van Ostaden, a brewer with a deep passion for both beer and cooking. The brewery was previously known as Brouwerij De Leyerth before operating under the Urthel name. In 2007, Urthel established itself as a dedicated Belgian brewing label, and in 2012 the brewery was acquired by Swinkels Family Brewers, one of the larger family-owned brewing groups in the Netherlands. Urthel is known for producing characterful Belgian-style beers, including fruity and strong ales as well as quadrupel styles. A notable aspect of the brewery's operations is that its core beers are brewed at La Trappe in the Netherlands, the well-known Trappist brewery in Berkel-Enschot. This partnership allows Urthel to maintain quality and consistency across its portfolio while operating as a smaller, concept-driven brewing label. With its roots in West Flanders and a brewing philosophy shaped by Hildegard van Ostaden's personal passions, Urthel has built a reputation for distinctive Belgian beer styles that appeal to fans of traditional and artisanal brewing.
