Wylam
United Kingdom · Founded in 2000
Wylam Brewery was founded in May 2000 by John Boyle and Robin Leighton, with the first recipes developed in a potting shed in the village of Wylam, Northumberland. The brewery initially operated out of South Houghton Farm in Heddon on the Wall. Tragically, Robin Leighton passed away in 2005, but the brewery continued to grow and evolve under the guidance of those he left behind. In 2025, Wylam celebrated 25 years of brewing, marking a significant milestone in the North East England craft beer scene. Wylam has built a reputation as one of the North East's most respected craft breweries, producing a diverse range of beer styles. Their portfolio spans approachable session ales such as the Pale Ale Frenzied Reveller (4.4% ABV) through to bold double IPAs like Do You Wanna Touch Me. The brewery is known for pushing creative boundaries while remaining rooted in the brewing traditions of the region. Wylam has collaborated with notable British breweries, including a partnership with Yorkshire's T&R Theakston to produce Henry's Pick, Theakston's first-ever collaboration beer. The brewery also offers brewery tours, which have received strong reviews from visitors praising both the experience and the informative guides. With a planned pub in Newcastle, Wylam continues to expand its presence across the North East.
