Woerkumer Bier is a regional beer brand rooted in Woudrichem, a historic town in the Altena region of North Brabant, the Netherlands. The brand was founded not as a purely commercial venture, but out of a passion for local heritage and craft brewing. According to its founders, the initiative grew from a creative and community-driven spirit — with early revenues from other projects helping to get the brand off the ground. Woerkumer Bier is closely tied to the cultural identity of the region, and the brand is associated with a foundation that continues to produce and release beers connected to the local area. The portfolio of Woerkumer Bier reflects a strong sense of place and history. The brand has explored a variety of styles, including a Meergranen Bok — a multi-grain bock clocking in at 6.5% — and has shown ambition in brewing historically inspired beers. One notable project involved recreating a historical beer linked to Hugo de Groot, the famous Dutch jurist and statesman who had ties to Woudrichem. When the Altena municipality was formed, the brand expanded its range to also include Altenabier, further cementing its role as a local streekbier producer. Woerkumer Bier has organised public tasting events, including a Streekbieren Proeverij in September 2018 featuring more than 50 regional beers from at least four local brewers, highlighting its commitment to promoting streekbieren and regional brewing culture.
