Wispe

Wispe Brouwerij is an independent Dutch brewery based in Weesp, a historic town with a rich brewing tradition. The brewery was founded in 2009 by three brothers, who revived local brewing exactly one hundred years after the last brewery in Weesp had closed its doors. The name Wispe refers to the oldest known name for Weesp, dating back to 1150, connecting the brand directly to the town's deep-rooted heritage. The first beer was brewed in collaboration with Amsterdam's Brouwerij De Prael, with Wispe Blond leading the way. Wispe focuses primarily on the regions of Amsterdam and Het Gooi, bringing locally inspired craft beer back to the area. The brewery has grown its portfolio to around fifteen different beers, with a core range that spans various styles. What makes Wispe particularly distinctive is its brewing location: a former church, a setting that holds special significance since Sint Laurentius — the patron saint of brewers — lends symbolic weight to the craft practiced within its walls. From its humble beginnings as a contract-brewed brand to a fully established independent brewery, Wispe has become a proud ambassador of Weesp's brewing legacy. The brewery's story is one of revival, regional identity, and a passion for bringing quality craft beer back to a city that once thrived on its brewing culture.
