Stokerij Rubbens
Belgium · Founded in 1817
Stokerij Rubbens is a historic distillery and brewery rooted in the East Flemish municipality of Zele, with origins dating back to 1817. What began as an agricultural operation gradually evolved into a farm distillery, processing grain surpluses into alcohol. Over the centuries, the enterprise grew substantially, and by 2021 its product range counted over 120 items. The current premises in Wichelen are housed in a striking building constructed around 1925, adding a tangible sense of heritage to every visit. In recent years, Rubbens expanded its craft identity by stepping into the world of brewing, officially rebranding as Distillery – Brewery Rubbens. Their first beer, Rubbens Blond, was launched with a focus on short-chain production, connecting local agricultural roots with contemporary craft brewing. A tripel was also announced as part of the early lineup, signalling ambitions to develop a broader portfolio of Belgian beer styles alongside their established distilled range. The Wichelen site offers guided tours and tastings, making it a destination for those curious about both brewing and distilling traditions. The combination of a brasserie, Belgian kitchen, and hands-on experiences positions Rubbens as much more than a producer — it is a full hospitality experience rooted in over two centuries of Flemish craftsmanship.
