Sion Kloosterbier is a brewery rooted in monastic tradition, located at Klooster Nieuw Sion in Diepenveen, near Deventer in the Netherlands. The brewery operates in close connection with the sisters of the convent, reviving a centuries-old brewing heritage that once flourished in monasteries across Europe. The philosophy behind Sion Kloosterbier reflects the calm and contemplative atmosphere of its surroundings, with a strong emphasis on local ingredients and a respectful approach to the craft of brewing. The brewery's portfolio embraces classic abbey-inspired beer styles, with seasonal offerings that follow the rhythm of the liturgical and natural calendar. Among the known releases is a Saison (6% ABV) and a Lentebok (6.6% ABV), both bottled in 33cl. The use of local ingredients and the connection to monastic life give each beer a distinctive character that sets Sion Kloosterbier apart from commercial craft breweries. The Saison is brewed in collaboration with Brouwerij De Ranke, a respected Belgian brewery. Visitors can experience the brewery firsthand through beer tastings held at the monastery itself, where staff share the history and traditions behind each brew. Sion Kloosterbier also runs a membership society — the Sion Kloosterbier Genootschap — which delivers a carefully curated selection of beers to members every quarter.
