Shock Top
United States · Founded in 2006
Shock Top is an American wheat beer brand launched in February 2006 by Anheuser-Busch as a seasonal offering. Styled after Belgian witbier traditions, it was introduced to bring a spiced, citrus-forward wheat ale to a mainstream American audience. What began as a seasonal release quickly grew into a permanent portfolio brand. In 2023, Tilray Brands acquired Shock Top along with several other beer brands from Anheuser-Busch, marking a new chapter in the brand's history. Shock Top's core identity is built around its Belgian-style wheat ale, brewed with a characteristic blend of spices and citrus. Over the years, the brand expanded its range with line extensions including a Wheat IPA and limited-edition seasonal variants such as the Twisted Pretzel Wheat. This portfolio reflects Shock Top's ambition to cater to flavor-forward drinkers while staying rooted in its wheat beer heritage. Shock Top has been recognized as an award-winning traditional Belgian-style wheat ale. The brand has been described by AB InBev as one of its most successful brand launches. More recently, the lineup was further extended with High Voltage, the brand's first high-ABV beer, demonstrating a continued push to evolve beyond its witbier origins.
